Dear President-Elect Donald Trump:
Please do not appoint Gen. Michael Flynn to national security advisor.
The person serving as national security advisor must be one who is grounded in fact and carefully-gathered intelligence, the person you turn to for prudent guidance in navigating a dangerous and complex world. Far from demonstrating care or prudence, however, Gen. Flynn has made sport out of spreading incendiary conspiracy theories that, if he were to continue along this vein as national security advisor, would endanger American and other lives. Gen. Flynn has also shown a penchant for drawing false, conspiracy-tainted conclusions, then forcing the facts to conform to these conclusions, as he did at the Defense Intelligence Agency when he ordered staff to find facts to back up his off-the-mark conviction that Iran was behind the Benghazi attacks.
His son Michael G. Flynn, having recently taken a few pages out of his father’s book with a series of false and lurid tweets, incited a gunman to show up at the Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in Washington, D.C. to “self-investigate” a non-existent child-sex ring. Fortunately, tragedy was averted — this time. Please don’t risk a next time.
You did the right thing by removing Gen. Flynn’s son from your Transition Team following the now-infamous "Pizzagate." Please take the next step and withdraw Gen. Flynn’s consideration from the national security advisor post.
Sincerely,
